Bring Me to Life
by Evanescence

How can you see into my eyes
Like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there
And lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become

Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

Bring me to life
I've been living a lie
There's nothing inside
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead

All of this sight
I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark
But you were there in front of me

I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
I've got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought
Without a voice
Without a soul

Don't let me die here
There must be something wrong
Bring me to life

This layout, entitled Bring Me to Life, utilizes tight tables, style sheets and a textured box navigation menu. The overall scheme was based on a dark, gothy perspective, utilizing grayscale shades.

The character in the layout is Sirius Black, nicknamed Padfoot, because he could transform at will into a big black dog. He is rendered here as he wanders through the shadows of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, seeking justice and a measure of vengeance. The above image of Sirius is a scan of originally black-and-white artwork from the hardcover edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The picture was heavily edited and portrayed in various filtered layers.

The verse for this spread is the song Bring Me to life, performed by the band Evanescence. This track was popularized by the 2003 film Daredevil, and appears in the film's official soundtrack as well as in the band's Fallen album. Parts of the song's chorus could be found in the layout image. I chose this song because it could speak for Sirius' tribulation while he was imprisoned in the Dementor-riddled wizard penitentiary of Azkaban, with the desire for freedom and retribution making him hold on to his sanity and his life.
